Drop In, Otter Creek, and Bobcat Cafe on Columbus Day

Postby redshorts47 » Wed Oct 10, 2012 2:12 pm

Siobhan and I both had the Columbus Day holiday off so we wanted to go do a hike. Decided on doing some peaks on the NE 100 highest list that was relatively close by so we chose Breadloaf and Wilson in Ripton which is just east of Middlebury VT. A great little hike, a 9.2 mile out and back. Nice lookout just off of Breadloaf were we got to see all the great fall colors down below while being surrounded bu our first encounter of SNOW for the year. :D Absolutely beautiful!!! Besides that outlook this hike didn't have anything in terms of views as both summits are wooded but it was such a beautiful trail that this trip is one off favorites. On our way back we stopped in at Skyline Lodge to check that and Skylight Pond out. Looks like a really great place to stay for the night if doing the Long Trail.

Now that we were done with our hike it was now beer time. We first dropped in at Drop In brewery ...hahaha... and tried out their 3 IPA's one being their new Supernova IPA which was outstanding. We grabbed a Squealer to go which is just over two pints. Great little place and would definitely recommend to check them out if near the area.

Then it was off to Otter Creek. The place was dead for this time of day. We had the black IPA which was tasty but nothing spectacular and we had a quick 12 ounces and then left. The place was nice inside being surrounded on two sides by large wall to floor windows showing the brewing operations.

It was now time to go have dinner at the Bobcat. The first and last time we were here the place was when we were working on our 111 and the place was insanely busy so we decided not to bother. This time it was 5 o'clock and they had just opened up so the place was just about dead at this point. Ordered their IPA and some dinner, both were good. Love the feel and look of the place.

Oh, while at Drop In Brewery we were able to finally pick up some of those VT brewery passports after all the places we've been to before never had them. Guess that means we'll just have to go revisit all of them again....what a pain  :toast:

Sounds like a great trip! And snow - yeah!Nice, little used area there.

Drop in sounds like a new destination for us. Saw the squealers out at Rogues in Ithaca two weeks ago, I guess they might hold enough beer.........maybe not though.

I like Bobcat as well for the food and atmosphere, but we have had hit and miss on the beer at times.

Another trip for the beer passport completion - now there's a plan!

CU 2 Friday at 5.

Drop In was definitely the best of the three by far. If only they served food. They offer the squealer, the regular growler, and then they have a grumbler which is twice the size of the growler. Can't wait for Friday
